In a life changing event, a disgruntled student from Kashmir is now the Captain of the Jammu and Kashmir’s women’s football team. Afshan Ashiq was the poster girl of stone pelters in Srinagar. Spending her days leading other women to attack the area’s police.
But now, Ashiq is 21 years old and has had a dream transformation. She got to meet the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and told him she does not plan to look back.
Ashiq was quoted saying, “My life has changed forever. I want to be an achiever and do something to make the State and the Nation proud.”
A renowned Bollywood filmmaker who wants to remain anonymous for now plans to make a film on Ashiq. Afshan Ashiq is the goalkeeper of the team and expressed Mr. Singh’s quick action was admirable. She said, “When we told the Home Minister that Jammu and Kashmir lacks sports infrastructure, he immediately called up the Chief Minister (Mehbooba Mufti) and requested her to do the needful to help us.”
The Home Minister reported Rs. 100 crores were sanctioned for the State’s sports infrastructure. The Government has decided to better the sports opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir. This is done to help the youth find the right path and not drift to the dark side.
